In the Qur’an, it is made clear over and over again, that the Old Testament scriptures as well as the New Testament scriptures are to be read by Muslims. However, if you ask a Muslim what they think about the Bible, you might be shocked as to the answer you receive. Islamic Mullahs and Imams have perpetrated the idea that somehow the Jewish Torah and the Christian Gospels are not to be trusted, as they have been corrupted. There are a few problems with this as I will illustrate below.

First Problem:

• Never has it been elaborated upon as to who is responsible for this corruption. We are never given names, dates, or even so much as a conspiracy theory. If the Bible was corrupted, whom was it corrupted by? When was it corrupted? How was the corruption carried out? These are questions for which no Muslim has the answer.

Second Problem:

• The culprits of this supposed corruption could not have changed the Christian Gospels after Muhammad for the following reasons.
• There are 5,735 manuscripts of the whole or part of the Greek text of the New Testament (Injil in Arabic) pre-dating Muhammad still in existence.
• Worldwide, there are 24,800 copies of these original manuscripts. These include the Codex Vaticanus (325-350 AD) located in the Vatican library and the Codex Siniaticus (350 AD) located in the British Museum.
• There are approximately 80,000 quotations in the works of early Christian writers which are so extensive that the New Testament could virtually be reconstructed from them without the actual New Testament documents.

Third Problem:

• The third problem arises from the sheer time frame of the formation of the Bible as compared to the formation of the Qur’an. The Christian Gospels were so widely distributed both before and after Muhammad, that any attempt to change something in the Christian Gospels would have resulted in immediate discovery and condemnation.  A protest would have resulted from Christians were it tampered with.

To sum up our argument, the Christian Bible predates Muhammad and Islam by more than 575 years. The Jewish Torah predates Muhammad and Islam by 1,000 – 3,000 years. Muhammad said for Muslims to read the Bible for “guidance and light.” For Islam to say that these same scriptures are corrupted and should not be trusted is then to call Muhammad a liar for recommending it to his followers.
